Media: Musk's space plans may unite SpaceX and xAI to create near-Earth data centers
Elon Musk continues to integrate his key businesses, and the next step may be a merger of the space company SpaceX and the startup xAI — Reuters sources reported this.
What is known
The large-scale deal is expected to be completed before SpaceX goes public, which is anticipated in the second half of 2026, and, as Musk hopes, will allow him to attract additional investments and expand the space exploration program.
The interest in merging SpaceX and xAI lies in the fact that this will enable Musk to build a cluster of AI data centers in Earth's orbit that will have vast computing power and will not overheat due to the absolute zero of space, and will not be tied to environmental regulations.
Moreover, SpaceX will gain unlimited access to the latest AI technologies and will be able to use them in future Starship missions and to improve Starlink's satellite internet.
Negotiations between SpaceX and xAI are still at an early stage, and it is not yet known what Musk will agree with himself (Musk is the founder and CEO of both companies).
