Like in MacOS and Linux: Microsoft may add a top bar for widgets and system information to the Windows 11 interface
Microsoft is preparing a major new change to the Windows 11 interface — it may feature a top bar designed for quick widgets and system information. The idea is already being tested by the PowerToys team and resembles the menu bar from macOS or some Linux distributions.
What is known
The top bar will be located across the entire width of the screen and will be part of the extended Command Palette functionality — a tool for quick access to system features.
According to Windows Central, the bar will be able to display system information (battery, network, performance), music controls, quick shortcuts, and widgets.
It is likely that with this solution Microsoft aims to make Windows 11 more flexible and convenient for users accustomed to top menus in macOS or Linux.
With the introduction of such a bar, users will be able to access information, notifications, and widgets more quickly without needing to open additional windows and menus. Additionally, this solution fits perfectly into the concept of personalizing the Windows interface.
The feature is still in the research stage, so there is no timeline for its appearance in the stable version of Windows 11. However, its testing indicates that Microsoft is seriously considering expanding the interface's capabilities.
