AMD is preparing to raise prices for Radeon graphics cards and reduce the release of 16 GB models — the company repeats Nvidia's strategy and adjusts its lineup due to the rising cost of RAM, which is a crucial component for GPUs.

What is known

According to insiders at the professional forum Board Channels, AMD partners have already received notifications about the new increase in purchase prices. In January, the cost of some models increased by 5–10%, adding up to $40 to the retail price. Now a new wave of price increases is expected — it is expected in February and March. Against this backdrop, distributors began actively purchasing graphics cards in advance, which could lead to a temporary shortage of goods in stores.

The price increase is primarily connected to the rising cost of memory chips, which is prompting AMD to shift priorities in production: the company will focus on more affordable models with 8 GB of memory. In particular, the focus is shifting to the Radeon RX 9060 XT (8 GB) and Radeon RX 7650 GRE.

In the 16 GB graphics card segment, AMD will keep the focus on the Radeon RX 9060 XT (16 GB) and the flagship RX 9070 XT, while the release of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 GRE will be significantly reduced. Thus, the company aims to narrow the price gap between Radeon and GeForce, which was previously one of AMD's key advantages.

Typically, the information from insiders at the Board Channels forum is soon confirmed, so if you planned to purchase a Radeon graphics card — don't delay.
