The company Anthropic announced that its chatbot Claude will remain ad-free. This contradicts the approach of OpenAI, which recently began testing ad placements in ChatGPT for some users.

What is known

The statement noted that "adding ads in conversations with Claude is incompatible with the aim of making it a genuine assistant for work and deep thinking." Developers point out that users often share personal details, and ads related to such information could seem inappropriate. For example, if a user seeks help with mental health, the appearance of drug advertisements may cause discomfort.

It is also mentioned that conversations with Claude can involve complex engineering tasks or discussions of challenging decisions. In such cases, ads would appear inappropriate or out of context.

The Anthropic blog states that advertising monetization contradicts the principles of Claude, which are based on "general utility." Additionally, the company notes that implementing an advertising model would add complexity, as the behavior of language models in such conditions can be unpredictable.
