Valve broke the silence on the release timeframe and price of the Steam Machine gaming console/PC, as well as the Steam Frame VR headset and Steam Controller 2. Big Announcement from Valve: The Company Introduced Three New Devices — the Stationary Console Steam Machine, Steam Controller 2, and VR Headset Steam Frame with a promise of a release in early 2026.

Insiders have repeatedly reported that the company urgently changed its plans due to a memory shortage and the overall unstable market situation, and for this reason, Inside: Half-Life 3 may become the launch game for Steam Machine and release in March 2026, as the long-awaited game should become a system seller for the Steam Machine.

What's known

In its message on Steam, Valve acknowledged that the increase in the price of RAM chips, storage devices, and other crucial components indeed disrupted all plans. The new gadgets will still try to be released in the first quarter of 2025, but their prices will be revised.

Limited availability and rising component prices mean we need to reconsider delivery schedules and cost. This particularly affects the Steam Machine and Steam Frame.

Importantly, Valve is confident in the high performance of the Steam Machine and states that the console can run most games from the Steam library in 4K resolution at 60 FPS.

Recall, the platform is being created with maximum personalization in mind: users will be able to install Windows or Linux on it, replace certain components, and the front magnetic panel will be sold in many colors.
