Insider: PlayStation 6 will have twice as much memory as PlayStation 5 Pro
New information has emerged online about the next-generation gaming console PlayStation 6 and a powerful portable gadget from Sony, which will become part of the PlayStation ecosystem and be released simultaneously.
What's known
The authoritative insider Kepler_L2, who specializes in information about the "hardware" of various new products, reported that the PS6 will have 30 GB of memory (operational and graphical). According to him, it will be GDDR7 with a frequency of 32 GHz, which is twice as much as the PS5 and PS5 Pro (16 GB GDDR6). The memory chips will be divided into 10 blocks of GDDR7 with 3 GB each.
Sony will slightly reduce the memory bus from 256 to 160 bits, but thanks to the increased speed, the console will still provide a significant increase in bandwidth — about 640 GB/s compared to the current 576 GB/s.
In turn, the portable PlayStation, which is being developed under the codename Canis, will have an impressive amount of memory for a compact device — 24 GB, but it will be LPDDR5X.
This information leaves no doubt that the new gaming platforms from Sony, the release of which is expected in 2028-29, will provide a huge technological leap and allow developers to create incredible virtual worlds without significant technical limitations.
