Media: Microsoft has not abandoned plans for its own portable console, but the wait will be long
In the spring of 2025, insider and Windows Central journalist Jez Corden reported that Microsoft had canceled the development of its own portable console, which was supposed to be released under the Xbox brand and compete with the Steam Deck.
Later, another insider KeplerL2 clarified that this decision was due to pressure from AMD, which was ready to start producing chips only on the condition that Microsoft guaranteed the sale of at least 10 million devices, otherwise AMD would receive large compensation.
Well, a few months later, the story continued.
What is known
The same Jez Corden, in a detailed report on the next-generation home console Xbox mentioned that according to his sources, the American corporation has not actually abandoned the idea of releasing its own portable gadget.
Allegedly, Microsoft has prioritized the main Xbox, which will rather become a PC optimized for games than a console, and will cost about $1000, with plans to engage with the compact gadget after the release of the home platform.
Thus, at least until 2028, Xbox brand fans can only count on the console ROG Xbox Ally from ASUS, and it is not excluded that some other manufacturers will also receive licenses to release similar devices, but an exclusive portable console from Xbox will have to wait a few more years.
However, there is still no guarantee that Microsoft will implement this idea and it may well turn out that the company will abandon the production of its own portable console.
