British studio Supermassive Games has shared important news about the new part of the horror anthology The Dark Pictures called Directive 8020.

Recall, the game, which for the first time in the series will take events beyond Earth, was supposed to be released as early as the fall of 2025, but its release was delayed due to some internal problems with the developers. And finally, we have learned its release date.

What is known

The new game from the creators of The Quarry, Until Dawn (2015), and Little Nightmares III has received a trailer that announces that anyone interested can already pre-order, and the release of Directive 8020 will take place on May 12 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.

In the video, Supermassive Games reminded that the events of The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 will unfold in the distant future aboard the colony spaceship "Cassiopeia," whose crew will be attacked by unknown creatures capable of taking human form, making the plot somewhat reminiscent of John Carpenter's horror movie "The Thing."

The new gameplay will have more action and combat mechanics — now players are offered not only to choose lines and determine further events but also to directly control the characters.

The cost of the standard edition of Directive 8020 is $50, and those who pre-order will receive bonus content from the Deluxe edition:

  • a set of The Dark Pictures costumes;
  • a set of three cinematic camera filters;
  • digital artbook and soundtrack.

The Deluxe edition will include an additional mission to find dolls and relics from the games Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me — the previous parts of The Dark Pictures Anthology.
