Media: Mysterious AI gadget from OpenAI and Jony Ive will be released later than expected and under a different name

It seems that the joint projects of Sam Altman and former Apple chief designer Jony Ive are not going well. As we previously reported, the AI earphones from OpenAI, which were expected to be released in 2026, Insider: OpenAI's Sweetpea AI Earphones Postponed Indefinitely, Regular TWS Earphones to Release in 2026 Instead, and now there is information that the release of another gadget is somewhat delayed.

What's Known

Journalists from Wired gained access to documents provided by OpenAI in a court case with the company iyO, which produces audio equipment. It states that the mysterious AI device from Jony Ive will not be released until at least February 2027, and will also receive a different name since “io” is already taken.

It remains unclear what tasks Ive's device will perform. Previously, there was information that the industrial design legend Media: OpenAI is working on a line of AI gadgets - Jony Ive's new products will hit the market by the end of next year, including a smart speaker without a display, smart glasses, a digital voice recorder, and a wearable “pin.”
