Steam Deck could become scarce: the situation in the components market threatens Valve with serious problems
Last week, an unexpected situation occurred — the popular portable consoles Steam Deck OLED disappeared from stores in the US for several days (in December Valve discontinued Steam Deck with an LCD display).
Given the situation in the components market, it was not difficult to guess that this largely happened due to the shortage of memory chips and their rapid price increase.
Unfortunately, everything indicates that supply disruptions of the Steam Deck will become regular and extend beyond the United States.
What is known
A disclaimer appeared on the Steam Deck page, informing that the console may not always be available, and such a situation may occur in different regions.
These are not the first problems Valve has faced related to the shortage of RAM; the company has not been able to determine the price and release date for the Steam Machine console and the Steam Frame VR headset for several months Coming soon, but will be more expensive: Valve commented on the release situation of Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Controller 2, which has had so many leaks that no one doubts the existence of the game.
Recall, the situation in the components market is so serious that Sony and Microsoft are seriously considering postponing the launch of next-generation consoles to 2028–2029, and Nintendo plans to increase the cost of Switch 2.
