On February 19, the release of the stealth action game Styx: Blades of Greed will take place on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, which will become the third part of the series dedicated to the adventures of the sarcastic goblin thief Styx.

The previous parts did not feature big budgets and innovative technical solutions, but they were warmly received by the public, and the first reviews of the new game indicate that it will not disappoint fans either.

What is Known

Journalists and bloggers have started sharing their opinions on Styx: Blades of Greed, and the first ratings can already be seen on aggregators:

  • Opencritic — 74 points with 45% recommendations;
  • Metacritic — 71 (PC) and 75 points (PS5).

Reviewers note that the Cyanide studio did an excellent job of improving mechanics that are already familiar to gamers, while maintaining the trademark style and atmosphere of Styx and eliminating some drawbacks of previous parts. Recall that Styx: Master of Shadows and Styx: Shards of Darkness scored on average 71 and 72 points.

The authors of the reviews praise the flexibility and creativity of the gameplay mechanics, which allow the player to quickly adapt to various situations and use different approaches to complete tasks.

Stealth action games are not very popular right now, but the developers did not succumb to the trend of simplification and maintained the complexity and difficulty of stealth passage, providing the Goblin with additional abilities and tools, like a glider, grappling hook, and the ability to briefly return in time.

The core gameplay of Styx remains unchanged: the main character will once again hide in the shadows, use objects to distract and quietly eliminate enemies, and try not to engage in open confrontation, as Styx is not a very skilled fighter, but he possesses impressive acrobatic skills and deftly climbs buildings. And, of course, he will not miss the opportunity to wryly comment on the player's failures, creating a "fourth wall break" effect.

One of the reviewers aptly pointed out that Styx: Blades of Greed is a classic AA game, not too large-scale, somewhat underdeveloped, but atmospheric, creative, and engaging. PC gamers should be prepared for less than optimal performance, but it will likely be improved in subsequent patches.
