Audi will release Concept C even if Porsche 718 EV is canceled
Audi has confirmed a plan to create an electric sports car inspired by Concept C, regardless of the future of the Porsche 718 electric models.
What is known
According to Donaukurier, Audi head Gernot Döllner stated in a letter to employees that the supply of the platform for the new electric car from Porsche is not in question. According to him, the teams of the two brands continue to collaborate.
The two-door model, known within the company as the C-Sport, is expected to hit the market in 2027. It will be built on the same platform as the electric versions of the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman.
Meanwhile, Porsche, according to German media, is considering revising or even canceling the 718 EV project. The reasons cited include financial losses in the electric direction and slowing demand for electric vehicles in the US. It is reported that the company held an internal meeting to determine further strategy for the 718 EV.
Doubts intensified after a leadership change: at the beginning of the year, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume gave up this position to Michael Leiters. The company has also previously indicated the possibility of reworking the platform for gasoline engine use.
Despite this, Audi emphasizes its commitment to the project. Döllner's letter confirms that the fate of the Audi C-Sport does not depend on the final decision regarding the electric Porsche 718.
