Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games — the developer of excellent remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus

Unexpected information has emerged about one of PlayStation's internal studios. According to Bloomberg, Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games — the studio that released excellent remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus.

What is known

Jason Schreier received information that following a "business process analysis," the Japanese company decided to close the studio, which joined PlayStation in 2021 and has not released a single game since then.

It was previously reported that the team was working on their first own game and was also involved in the creation of a canceled service project based on the God of War franchise, It's official: Sony has cancelled two service games, one of which was based on the God of War franchise.

Apparently, Sony could not find a suitable application for the talented professionals from Bluepoint Games, and as a result, 70 out of 80 developers will be laid off.

As is the tradition in big business, the laid-off team received a typical corporate letter from PlayStation praising their achievements, but the fact remains — Bluepoint Games is ceasing to exist:

The Bluepoint Games team is incredibly talented, and their technical expertise has created exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship.

Officially, Sony plans to announce the closure of Bluepoint Games in March.
