The fifth generation Toyota Yaris is expected to be released at the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028 and, for the first time, will receive a fully electric version alongside hybrid and gasoline modifications. The current fourth generation of the compact model has been produced since 2020.

What is known

According to Andrea Carlucci, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing for Toyota in Europe, the transition to full electrification is inevitable. In an interview with the British website Auto Express, he noted that ideally, the company should use a platform that supports different types of powertrains. Such a "multi-energy" approach will become a universal solution regardless of customer requests.

Toyota plans to implement this strategy for the first time in the next generation Toyota Corolla. The new Corolla will receive a platform compatible with internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric versions. The design will remain unified for all variants. A similar concept is expected to be applied to the fifth generation Yaris.

With a length of about four meters, the Yaris belongs to the B-class. In the electric version, the model will compete with Volkswagen ID. Polo, Renault 5, Opel Corsa Electric, and Peugeot e-208. To meet market expectations, the range should be about 400 km according to the WLTP cycle. This will require a battery capacity of approximately 50 kWh.

Unlike Renault and Volkswagen, which use specialized electric platforms with a battery in the form of a single block in the floor, Stellantis uses an architecture with module placement in various parts of the car. It is not yet specified which configuration Toyota will choose for the electric Yaris.

According to Auto Express, the new generation model will receive a more modern and dynamic design compared to the current version. It is expected that to maintain the trunk volume, the car will remain front-wheel drive and retain the rear torsion beam suspension.

Currently, in Europe, Toyota offers only one fully electric model — the Toyota bZ4X. Soon, a Touring version and a shortened C-HR+ will join it. The electric Corolla should debut at the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027. If these terms hold, the fully electric Yaris could hit the market about a year later.
