Volvo Cars is recalling more than 40,000 Volvo EX30 electric crossovers. The reason is the potential overheating of the battery, which in rare cases can lead to a fire.

What is known

The start of the service campaign was first reported by the agency Reuters. According to it, the company is already contacting car owners and recommends temporarily limiting the battery charge to 70% capacity. Replacing defective batteries could cost the manufacturer about $200 million.

The exact distribution of the recalled cars by country is not disclosed yet.

Volvo introduced the EX30 in 2023 as a more compact model in the electric vehicle lineup, following the Volvo EX90. Currently, the EX30 is the smallest car of the brand and occupies a position below the Volvo XC40. The model is manufactured in China and Belgium.

Battery defects in electric vehicles and hybrid models are considered critical due to the fire risk. Such fires can be challenging to extinguish. In some cases, automakers recommend owners park vehicles away from buildings and other cars until the defect is fixed.
