Chery unveiled a new pickup in Australia with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) powertrain based on a diesel engine. The concept carries the code designation KP31. The launch of the production version is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.

What is known

The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the technical specifications. It is known that under the hood there is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel, which is part of a plug-in hybrid system with the ability to charge the traction battery from the grid. Data on power and torque are not yet published.

Externally, the KP31 almost completely repeats the Rely P3X model, which debuted in China last year. The pickup has a flat front end with round headlights, plastic overlays on the wheel arches, vertical cabin glazing, and an off-road body kit. The concept car's equipment includes a snorkel, BFGoodrich all-terrain tires size 285/70 R17, and an expedition roof rack with self-recovery tracks.

Chery Australia's Chief Operating Officer, Lucas Harris, noted that the company will be the first to offer a diesel PHEV in the dual cab pickup segment. According to him, this will be a key difference of the model from competitors.

Chery claims that the 2.5-liter turbodiesel in the hybrid system is 10% more economical than the "average diesel power unit." The thermal efficiency of the engine reaches 47%. The manufacturer also managed to reduce vibrations by 30%.

The length of the concept version is 5,610 mm, width - 1,920 mm, and height 1,925 mm. The production version will be slightly shorter — 5,450 mm. The declared towing capacity reaches 3,493 kg, and payload capacity — up to 1,000 kg.

In 2027, the company also plans to introduce a gasoline plug-in hybrid to the market, although details are yet to be revealed.

Chery promises to announce the full technical specifications, commercial name, and prices closer to the start of sales.
