Škoda expanded the Superb lineup with a new plug-in hybrid version with a power of 200 kW (272 hp). It is the most powerful brand car with an internal combustion engine in the current lineup.

What is known

The brand's first plug-in hybrid — Škoda Superb iV — debuted in 2019. A year later, the Škoda Octavia iV appeared, and in 2024, the hybrid Škoda Kodiaq iV will debut. A 150 kW power unit is retained for all versions of the Superb Combi and for the Superb in the Selection configuration. And for the liftback in the Sportline and Laurin & Klement configurations, only the new 200 kW modification is now offered.

The system combines a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with a power of 130 kW and an electric motor of 85 kW, as well as a traction battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh. The total output reaches 200 kW, making the model the most powerful Škoda with an internal combustion engine. An additional 50 kW is provided by the upgraded internal combustion engine and the new version of the control unit software. The maximum torque is increased to 400 Nm (+50 Nm).

Škoda emphasizes that the new version is more dynamic. The maximum speed is 225 km/h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.1 seconds. The permissible trailer weight is increased to 2,000 kg.

In line with the increased power, the braking system has been upgraded. The 200 kW version is equipped with rear ventilated discs with a diameter of 310 mm and a thickness of 22 mm instead of the 300×12 mm in 150 kW modifications. Separate air ducts for the front brakes are provided under the bumper, ensuring more effective cooling compared to the air circulation from the engine bay through the grille into the wheel arch used in the less powerful plug-in hybrid version.

The capacity of the high-voltage battery (25.7 kWh), charging power (AC — up to 11 kW, DC — up to 50 kW), charging time (10–80% about 26 minutes), mass, and most other technical parameters have not changed.

Since 2019, Škoda has delivered over 68,000 Superb iV units of both generations and in both body types. Demand continues to grow: every fourth new Superb is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system.
