God of War Expands: New Game Starring Kratos's Wife Faye Announced
The God of War franchise is rapidly developing: Amazon is filming a series, in February the metroidvania prequel Big news about God of War: Sony announced a remake of the original trilogy and released the metroidvania Sons of Sparta about young Kratos.
Rumors have been circulating for several weeks that series veteran Cory Barlog is not actively participating in all these projects, but instead is preparing another game. Many thought that it was about the old idea of a sci-fi action game that Barlog had long mentioned, but no, it will be another game in the God of War universe.
What is known
Authoritative insider NateTheHate stirred the gaming community with information that in fact, Barlog, attention, is creating a new sub-series within the God of War franchise, and its main character should be Faye, Kratos' second wife and Atreus' mother. It was her funeral that players saw at the beginning of God of War (2018), after which father and son went on a dangerous journey to scatter the woman's ashes on the highest mountain of the Nine Realms.
According to NateTheHate, the game from Santa Monica Studio will be significantly different from God of War (2018) and Ragnarok, featuring more action and a completely different combat system.
Cory Barlog is expected to present the game in the summer of 2026, with its release scheduled for the first half of 2027. Indirectly, this message confirms Jason Schreier's theory that Sony wants to create a multiverse based on God of War like, for instance, Marvel, in which different characters, events, and timelines coexist.
Further spoiler!
Retrospectively, it can be said that hints of such a game appeared in God of War Ragnarok — it was mentioned there that Faye is a powerful Jotun (Giant) and once fought directly with Odin and all of Asgard. She even had to destroy the shrine in Jotunheim to change the preordained fate of her husband and son. Likely, we will see these events in the new game.
Some characters emphasized that Faye is a mighty warrior, not inferior to Kratos, and it seems that gamers will soon be able to see it for themselves.
