Last week it became known that Official: Paramount buys Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion — this is the largest deal in the entertainment industry, which became the largest deal in the entertainment industry, and finally, the companies are gradually revealing their plans for further development as a single media holding.
What is known
When “Harry Potter”, “Batman” and “Game of Thrones” change hands: Netflix buys Warner Bros. for $82.7 billion, it was announced that the catalog of movies and series of HBO Max would become part of the Netflix catalog, forming a “mega-streaming” service with a single subscription.
As it turned out, Paramount provides for the same move, which CEO David Ellison announced during an investor report. He stated that by combining Paramount+ and HBO into one platform, hundreds of millions of subscribers will find themselves in a single ecosystem and gain access to a huge amount of high-quality content.
At the same time, it remains unknown whether the HBO Max content will be placed in a separate library, but Ellison states that this brand “will operate independently.” Moreover, the head of Paramount did not disclose the cost of a subscription to the combined service, but probably such details will be announced only after the deal is approved by US regulators and final documents are completed. The agreement is planned to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Recall that by buying WBD, Paramount Skydance will become the owner of the rights to such mega-popular franchises as Harry Potter, DC Comics Universe, The Matrix, Mad Max, Scooby-Doo, The Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones.
In turn, Paramount has a huge number of its own popular franchises, including Transformers, Cloverfield, Friday the 13th, Beverly Hills Cop, The Addams Family, as well as iconic animated series from Nickelodeon.
As a result of the merger, Paramount channels will also be combined — CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, and BET — with Warner networks, including CNN, TNT, and Food Network.
