Main features of the new MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max

  • New M5 Pro and M5 Max processors — Apple claims "breakthrough" performance and the next level of AI computing;
  • M5 Pro and M5 Max use a redesigned architecture with the world's fastest CPU core and next-generation GPU, where each core is equipped with a Neural Accelerator;
  • Performance in AI tasks has increased up to 4 times compared to the previous generation and up to 8 times in certain scenarios;
  • Fusion Architecture is a key innovation that combines CPU and GPU on separate dies, fabricated using a third-generation 3 nm process. This enhances energy efficiency and scalability.

Those who work with graphics will surely appreciate the M5 Max performance boost:

  • +15% in multithreaded tasks over the M4 Max;
  • +20% in GPU shaders;
  • +35% in ray tracing.

Apple increased the starting SSD capacity in the 14" MacBook Pro to 1 TB and in the 16" MacBook Pro to 2 TB. The laptops' SSDs are twice as fast, speeding up work with large projects and AI models.

The M5 Pro supports up to 64 GB of unified memory (compared to 48 GB in the M4 Pro) with a bandwidth of 307 GB/s. The M5 Max model maintains the maximum memory capacity at 128 GB but with increased bandwidth — up to 614 GB/s.

The laptops are equipped with the Apple N1 chip, which enables Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

The updated MacBook Pro sales are scheduled to begin on March 11 at the following prices:

  • 14" MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) — starting at $2200
  • 16" MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) — starting at $2700
  • 14" MacBook Pro (M5 Max) — starting at $3600
  • 16" MacBook Pro (M5 Max) — starting at $3900
