Yangwang U8 Tackles 1289th Test on Simulated Tianmen Mountain Stairs – Watch the Video!
A video of a camouflaged SUV confidently climbing a replica of the "Thousand Steps" staircase of Tianmen Mountain has leaked online.
The video appeared a few days before BYD's major technology conference. According to Chinese reviewers, the video shows a new version of the flagship SUV Yangwang U8.
On the site, signs "Tianmen Mountain Thousand-Step Staircase" are clearly visible. In the bottom right corner of the screen, a digital counter displaying "1289th test" indicates an extensive testing program.
High-complexity test stand
According to Sina Auto, the structure of the stand imitates the slope of the famous staircase on Tianmen Mountain. Meanwhile, the steps are made of steel sheets, providing less traction compared to natural stone. This creates more challenging conditions for testing traction capabilities and the operation of the power system.
Possible new version of the flagship
Despite the heavy camouflage, distinctive features of the prototype are noticeable: an angular body, large dimensions, and a spare tire case on the tailgate. The unique design of the rear lights and changes in the wheel arches area also attract attention.

There is no official confirmation, but the combination of design and demonstrated capabilities suggests that this is an updated version of the Yangwang U8.
The model is expected to be presented on March 5 at BYD's technology press conference.
Context: previous attempts
Last November, the Chery Fulwin X3L was tested on the actual Tianmen staircase. The test ended in failure and resulted in damage to the tourist site, after which the company issued an official apology.
Organizing such complex tests in a factory test site allows BYD to minimize risks to natural and cultural sites and conduct tests without restrictions related to access to the real location.
