The gaming industry regularly experiences scandals related to game cancellations, unmet obligations, public statements, harassment, and other undeniably fascinating stories. But perhaps this has never happened before — CD Projekt co-founders Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński are involved in a criminal case related to shamanic practices and the death of one of its participants.

What is known

Polish media have obtained materials from the criminal case regarding the death of a woman during an occult ritual in the Czech Republic. According to journalists, the entrepreneurs could be linked to the location where illegal ceremonies using psychoactive substances were held.

Polish investigators continue to investigate the tragic incident that took place in 2018 on a farm in the Czech town of Janov. There, during a ritual involving ayahuasca, a 35-year-old Polish woman died. During the study of the circumstances, the prosecutor's office stumbled upon documents featuring the names of two well-known Polish millionaires and simultaneously co-founders of CD Projekt — the company that created The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 game series.

According to information, Michał Kiciński may have been associated with the property where the rituals took place. Journalists claim he had participated in ceremonies before and maintained contacts with the organizers of such events — including so-called "shamans" who conducted rituals using psychedelics. The businessman confirmed that he knew the ritual organizer, but they crossed paths by chance — Kiciński allegedly did not even suspect the activities of his acquaintance.

Journalists noted that before the court hearings began, Kiciński wanted to sell his property in Janov but ultimately donated it to a certain association headed by a close friend of the "shaman."

Marcin Iwiński's name also appeared in the case materials, but his possible role remains unclear. Investigators are checking whether the entrepreneurs could have been involved with the group conducting the rituals or possessed information that might be important for the investigation.

The prosecutor's office emphasizes that at this stage, the conversation is not about pressing charges. However, the appearance of such well-known figures in the gaming industry in a case involving a fatal ritual has caused a wide public outcry and attracted the attention of both Polish and international media.

The investigation is ongoing, and investigators do not rule out the emergence of new facts that could help establish a complete picture of the events that occurred on the Czech farm eight years ago.

It should be noted that both defendants in the criminal case have not been associated with CD Projekt for several years, but a few months ago Sold! Co-founder and former head of CD Projekt becomes the new owner of the digital store GOG.

For those unaware

Ayahuasca is a traditional plant-based beverage used in religious and shamanic ceremonies in Amazonian countries (Peru, Brazil, Colombia). It is psychoactive and causes altered states of consciousness.

In Europe and most other regions, ayahuasca is considered illegal due to its DMT (dimethyltryptamine) content.
