Quake Revival Hinted: Zenimax's Trademark Update Sparks New Game Speculations
A couple of months ago, insiders stirred up the gaming community with a message that id Software is preparing the triumphant return of the Quake shooter series and will soon announce a new game. Today, this news received, albeit indirect, but quite convincing confirmation.
What is known
Information has been found online that Zenimax, the parent company of publisher Bethesda, has re-registered the Quake trademark.
This event in itself does not indicate anything, as this procedure is standard if the party wants to retain rights to the brand. But since it happened soon after the rumor about the continuation of Quake (the application was filed on March 3), it allows gamers to timidly hope that id Software will indeed return to the legendary series.
Recall, the first part of Quake was released in 1996 and laid the foundations on which shooters are still created today. It was the first 3D game in the genre, the innovative engine allowed vertical movement, and the enemy models were polygonal instead of consisting of sprites (John Carmack spent a huge amount of effort and cans of Cola on it).
The last full-fledged game in the franchise is the competitive shooter Quake Champions, which was fully released in 2022. Tournaments are still held for it, although the daily online barely reaches 200 people, but Quake and Quake 2 received excellent remasters and are available on all modern platforms with improved graphics and new content.
