Apple is delaying the launch of its smart home display until at least the fall of 2026. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the delay is related not to the hardware, but to the update of the Siri voice assistant, which is still not complete.

What is known

It concerns a device codenamed J490. Rumor has it that it will be a smart home display combining HomePod speaker functions with a touch screen. The development of the gadget has been ongoing for several years, and the first leaks about it appeared back in 2022. It was expected that the device could be introduced in the spring of 2026, but new data indicates a postponement of the presentation.

According to sources, the hardware of the display has been virtually ready for several months. The main reason for the delay is a massive Siri update, which is part of Apple's strategy to integrate artificial intelligence as part of Apple Intelligence. The company is working on making the assistant gain advanced capabilities and become more like modern chatbots.

It is expected that Apple may showcase the new version of Siri at the WWDC conference in the summer of 2026. The full launch of the updated assistant is planned to coincide with the release of the iPhone 18 Pro in September. It is likely that the company will also present the long-awaited smart display for the smart home ecosystem at that time.
