Volkswagen announced that the electric hatchback ID.3 will have a successor with a new name - ID.3 Neo. The world premiere of the model is scheduled for mid-April. It is likely not a completely new car, but a deep modernization of the current ID.3.

What is Known

The name Volkswagen ID. Golf is reserved for the electric version of the future Volkswagen Golf 9, which should appear no earlier than 2028 and is expected to replace the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo.

With the update, the ID.3 model will receive a new software platform. It is already available for Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen ID.5, and Volkswagen ID.7 models. The list of new features includes an improved Travel Assist driver assistance system with traffic light recognition, and the One Pedal Driving mode, which allows the car to decelerate using recuperation to a complete stop.

The Innovision multimedia system will receive an expanded In-Car Shop, through which additional functions and services can be activated. It also includes an app store where programs in categories such as audio, streaming, parking, charging, and games are available.

The new software architecture supports the Vehicle-to-Load feature, allowing external devices to be powered from the car’s high-voltage battery. Through a 230 V socket in the cabin or a special adapter to the Mode-3 connector, equipment with a power of up to 3.6 kW can be connected, such as an electric stove, coffee maker, or electric bicycle.

Another innovation will be the digital key. It will allow the car to be opened and started using a smartphone or smartwatch without a separate application - based on the principle of contactless payment. In addition, future models of the ID. family will once again feature physical buttons on the steering wheel for controlling basic functions.
