Chinese company BYD is preparing for the global launch of the ultra-fast Flash Charging technology. The European premiere will take place on April 8 in Paris, where the Denza Z9 GT electric station wagon will also be presented to the public.

Charging to 97% in nine minutes

In early March, BYD introduced the second generation of BYD Blade Battery and Flash Charger stations in China.

According to the manufacturer, the new Blade 2.0 cells with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry can charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. Even at -30 °C, charging from 20% to 97% takes about 12 minutes.

This speed is achieved not only by the new battery but also by the updated Flash Charger stations, capable of delivering up to 1.5 MW of power. However, maximum power is only achieved when two charging cables are used simultaneously.

Over 4,000 charging stations in China

According to the company, over 4,000 such charging stations have already been installed in China. However, plans for deploying megawatt infrastructure in Europe are only partially disclosed.

The European version of the Denza Z9 GT is expected to use the standard CCS connector to connect to existing fast charging networks. It is not yet clear whether European Flash Charger stations will be equipped with two CCS cables and what power they will be able to deliver.

Premium brand Denza enters the European market

Denza is positioned as a technologically oriented premium brand of the BYD group. Initially, it was created as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, but later the Chinese company gained full control over the brand and relaunched it in the premium segment.

The Denza Z9 GT model was first shown in Europe in April 2025. Initially, sales were planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, but the launch was postponed — likely to await the second generation of Blade batteries and the new Flash Charging system.

The rear-wheel-drive version with a 122 kWh battery should provide more than 800 km of range. The top modification with three electric motors develops over 700 kW of power.

The price of the model on European markets, including Germany, has not yet been announced.
