OpenAI plans to add the Sora video generation model directly to ChatGPT. This integration is expected to expand the chatbot's capabilities and attract even more users to the service.

What is known

The separate Sora application appeared in September 2025 along with the Sora 2 model and quickly became popular. However, over time, interest in it began to decline as users faced limitations on the number and types of videos that could be created. Integration into ChatGPT may give the technology a new boost and increase the platform's audience.

According to media reports, in February 2026, ChatGPT had about 900 million active users per week. Adding video generation may help the company overcome the milestone of 1 billion users. At the same time, the separate Sora application is planned to be retained, although it has already fallen out of the top 100 free apps in the App Store.

The exact cost of video generation is not disclosed by the company. In 2025, the Sora app also allowed the creation of up to 30 free videos per day for each account.

According to The Information's estimates, OpenAI predicts computing costs for running its models to exceed $225 billion from 2026 to 2030. The company is also testing various service monetization models, including credit payments for creating new videos.
