The Simpsons: Hit & Run Remake Possible? Showrunner Hints at Iconic Game's Return
In the early and mid-2000s, most game developers were obsessed with creating their own successful “GTA clone.” Most of these games turned out to be failures and were instantly forgotten by the public, but there were a couple of successful projects, including The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
This game had no criminal showdowns, no firearms, no dramatic plot, and its sales were not outstanding, yet over time, the action game achieved cult status, and for many years, fans expressed their desire to see a remaster of The Simpsons: Hit & Run for modern platforms.
To the public’s surprise, this request may come true — this was hinted at by the legendary animated series showrunner Matt Selman.
What is known
In an exclusive interview with People, Selman stated that releasing an updated version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run is not impossible. If the public truly wants the return of the comedy-satirical action in the open world of Springfield, such a reissue is indeed possible, but the producer emphasized that there are several legal obstacles to this, which, however, are quite surmountable.
It is worth noting that the author of The Simpsons: Hit & Run was the studio Radical Entertainment, better known for the two parts of Prototype. Since 2013, the team has almost ceased to exist, but literally at the beginning of 2026, it became known that its veterans reunited as New Radical Games and stated on their website that they are open to working on remasters and ports of old games. There is a possibility that if The Walt Disney Company and Fox are indeed interested in reissuing the famous game, New Radical Games will surely be happy to take on such a project.
