Apple Acquires MotionVFX: A New Era for Video Editing Plugins Begins
Apple has acquired MotionVFX, a studio that develops plugins, templates, and visual effects for professional video editing. The deal was announced on the MotionVFX website.
What is known
MotionVFX products are used in editors such as DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro. At the same time, the company has long been part of the third-party developer ecosystem for Final Cut Pro and is considered an Apple partner.
The financial terms of the deal and other details have not been disclosed by the parties. The MotionVFX announcement states that the team is "excited to join Apple" and sees this as the beginning of a new phase of development.
Many MotionVFX tools are designed to work with Final Cut Pro and the Apple Motion program. The company already offers an extension that adds a panel in Final Cut Pro for viewing, downloading, and applying effects from the MotionVFX library.
It is currently unknown whether MotionVFX subscriptions will change and whether support for other video editing programs will remain.
