Leapmotor A05: New Compact EV Set to Challenge Volkswagen ID.3 in Europe
The Chinese regulator published the first images of the new compact electric car Leapmotor A05, which will also appear in Europe. The photos appeared on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT).
What is known
The Leapmotor A05 is a compact five-door hatchback. In terms of dimensions, it is slightly smaller than the B05 model and differs from it in design. Unlike most of the brand's current models, except for the T03, the novelty is not a crossover. The manufacturer abandoned the increased ground clearance and is betting on the classic format of a compact car.
Thus, the company plans to expand its model lineup into a more affordable segment. The reduction in dimensions should help in forming a more competitive price, although specific pricing data is not yet disclosed. Meanwhile, some technical specifications are already known.

The length of the Leapmotor A05 is 4.20 m, width — 1.80 m, height — 1.56 m, wheelbase — 2.60 m. Thus, the model is slightly smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3, which in the upcoming update will be named ID.3 Neo. Externally, the car is styled in a restrained manner: a closed front end, horizontal headlights, and no LED strips across the width of the body at the front and rear. The taillights have a simple, near-rectangular shape.
Interior photos have not yet been published. Presumably, the interior will be partially unified with the B03X model (in the Chinese market — A10). The equipment may include a digital dashboard with an 8.8-inch diagonal and a central display of 14.6 inches.
The Leapmotor A05 will receive a front-mounted electric motor with permanent magnets in versions with 70 kW and 90 kW power. LFP (lithium iron phosphate) type batteries are used as the energy storage. The range is not yet disclosed.
