Transforming Mouse to Gamepad: Meet Pixelpaw Labs' Phase, the Ultimate Hybrid Controller for All Your Devices
Startup Pixelpaw Labs announced an unusual device called Phase — a hybrid of a computer mouse and a game controller, capable of transforming depending on the usage scenario.
Transformer Mouse
The main feature of Phase is its modular design. In its regular state, the gadget looks like a standard mouse, but when split into two parts, it turns into two controllers in the style of Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con. Both halves are equipped with sticks, buttons, and triggers, allowing the device to be used for gaming on PCs, smartphones, and other platforms.
How It Works
In mouse mode, the device uses an optical sensor with up to 16,000 DPI resolution and supports both wired connectivity via USB-C and wireless through Bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz adapter with a 1000 Hz polling rate.
The device can connect to three gadgets at once and work up to 72 hours without recharging. Additionally, there is a customizable control system that allows for button remapping and the use of additional functions.
Additional Details
Due to its transformable design, developers have done away with the traditional scroll wheel — instead, a touch panel on the surface of the body is used.
Additionally, the company is developing the Phase Grip accessory — it is a controller for smartphones that securely attaches to both sides of the casing, providing comfortable control. Similar devices have already appeared on the market and were very popular among mobile gaming enthusiasts.
When to Expect
The launch of Phase is planned through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The expected price of the device will be about $159, and the package with the accessory will be about $188.
