Audi Unveils A2 e-tron: Affordable Electric Hatchback Coming in 2026 with a Nostalgic Twist
Audi has announced a new electric hatchback A2 e-tron, which will hit the market in the fall of 2026. The model will be produced at the plant in Ingolstadt and will be the most affordable in the brand's electric vehicle family.
What is known
The development was announced at the annual media conference. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner presented the new lineup of electric vehicles, of which A2 e-tron will be a part. According to the company, the model is designed for everyday use, combining compactness, energy efficiency, and original design.
The first design sketch shows the car's silhouette. According to the image, the A2 e-tron will have a distinctive rear shape reminiscent of the original Audi A2 from 1999. According to preliminary information, the novelty will be built on the same platform as the Volkswagen ID.3 (in the future - ID.3 Neo). The expected length is about 4.25 meters.
The name A2 refers to the original late 1990s model designed for urban use. In the e-tron version, this approach is adapted to the electric powertrain.
Production in Ingolstadt underscores the significance of the project for Audi's German facilities. The launch of the new electric model will be part of the transformation of the company's plants and the expansion of electric vehicle production in Germany.
