BMW has revealed details about the new electric sedan i3 from the Neue Klasse family. Sales of the model will begin in the fall of 2026.

What is known

The dimensions of the new vehicle are 4.76 m in length, 1.86 m in width, and 1.48 m in height with a wheelbase of 2.90 m. Compared to the current 3 Series sedan with combustion engines, the electric version is slightly larger. The design of the i3 has recognizable features of the 'troika', but overall looks more strict.

The new model uses new lighting elements, including optional Iconic Glow grille illumination and dynamic lighting scenarios. At launch, 11 body color options will be offered, including the new M Le Castellet Blue color. To enhance efficiency, hidden glass seals, recessed door handles, and a completely flat underbody are used.

The interior largely mirrors the architecture of the iX3 crossover. A wide display block is located under the windshield, and the central screen is turned towards the driver. Finishes include Merino leather or synthetic Veganza material. Standard equipment includes electric seat adjustments and the Travel Comfort system, with optional sports seats and an M Sport package.

At the start of sales, the i3 will be available in the 50 xDrive version with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. The total power is 345 kW (469 hp), with a torque of 645 Nm. The declared range is up to 900 km.

Fast DC charging is supported with power up to 400 kW. In 10 minutes, the range can be replenished by about 400 km. AC charging is available with power up to 22 kW.

Dynamic characteristics and vehicle weight are not yet disclosed. It is expected that the sedan will be more dynamic than the iX3, which reaches 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed limiter at 210 km/h.

Production of the new BMW i3 will begin in August 2026 at the Munich plant, with the first customer deliveries planned for fall. Official prices have not yet been announced, but the iX3, priced at around 70,900 euros in Germany, can serve as a reference.
