Amazon Corporation has decided to return to the idea of releasing its own smartphone — such information was shared by sources of the Reuters publication.

What is known

As journalists have learned, Amazon for the first time since the failure of Fire Phone in 2014, which was Amazon's first and last attempt to enter the smartphone market — the gadget did not achieve commercial success and was discontinued a year later.

Now Amazon plans to release a smartphone with deep integration of its own services, primarily the Alexa assistant. Other ecosystem applications, including streaming services Prime Video and Prime Music, will be pre-installed on it.

There is a reasonable assumption that such a device is primarily needed by Amazon to legitimately collect user data and offer them goods and services more effectively.

It is reported that the project is headed by J Allard — a former Microsoft executive who oversaw the launch of the failed Zune music player, and author of Microsoft Surface and one of the key developers of Windows 11 Panos Panay.

Furthermore, Reuters is aware that Amazon is also considering releasing a DumbPhone — a button phone or a touch gadget with minimal functionality.
