Wing Launches Drone Deliveries in San Francisco Bay Area: Packages Arrive in Under 30 Minutes
Company Wing is expanding its drone delivery service and launching it in the San Francisco Bay Area. Automated drones can now deliver packages weighing up to five pounds (≈2.3 kg) in less than 30 minutes for residents of this region.
What is known
At the start, Wing transported office supplies on the Google campus in Mountain View using automated drones. At that time, the company was still a startup under X, The Moonshot Factory, but users were already asking for home delivery service. Currently, the company offers delivery of groceries, food, and other small goods.
Wing previously expanded its service to 150 Walmart stores in the US, including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami. The company also extended working hours to 9:00–21:00 in the Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth regions after receiving approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. After launching in the Bay Area, the company is considering Orlando and Tampa as the next markets for service expansion.
