Samsung Unveils Massive 8TB 870 EVO SSD: The Ultimate Storage Upgrade for High-Demand Users
Samsung has expanded its consumer SSD lineup and quietly released the 870 EVO series drive with increased capacity of 8 TB — the maximum volume for this generation of SATA drives.
Bet on a Proven Platform
The Samsung 870 EVO lineup was initially positioned as a universal solution for the mass market — from home PCs to workstations. The drives use the SATA III interface and 2.5-inch form factor, making them compatible with most existing systems.
The maximum operating speed reaches the limits for SATA: up to 560 MB/s for reading and 530 MB/s for writing. The device is based on proprietary V-NAND memory and the MKX controller, providing stable performance and high reliability. It also includes an 8 GB LPDDR4 cache.
Capacity Growth — Response to New Challenges
The introduction of the 8 TB version reflects the growing data storage needs of users. Modern games, high-resolution videos, and work projects require more space, and traditional HDDs are gradually giving way to SSDs even in the "large volume" segment.
Previously, the maximum capacity for the 870 EVO was 4 TB, with a lifespan of up to 2400 TBW and a five-year warranty. Increasing the capacity to 8 TB logically continues the development of the line, although such solutions remain niche due to high cost — the Samsung 870 EVO 8 TB costs €1300.
