The Wikimedia Foundation has updated platform rules and officially prohibited material authors from using generative artificial intelligence in writing and editing texts.

AI cannot be trusted

While Elon Musk and his Grokipedia completely rely on artificial intelligence, Wikipedia, known for its uncompromising stance on this technology, has banned its use because neural networks too often hallucinate, distort facts, and sometimes outright invent them. This violates Wikipedia's basic rule that all information presented must be impartial, verified, and have confirmed sources.

But it's not all bad

Despite the ban on AI use, "Wikipedia" still allows it for certain auxiliary tasks, such as speeding up text translation and checking grammar and spelling.
