ChatGPT Voice Mode Debuts in Apple CarPlay: Enhance Your Drive with AI Conversations
OpenAI has launched the voice mode of ChatGPT in Apple CarPlay. The new feature is already available for users with the current version of iOS.
What is Known
To use the new feature, you need to connect your iPhone to CarPlay, open the ChatGPT app, and select the 'New voice chat' option. Once the indicator that the bot is 'listening' appears, you can start the conversation — virtually like with a full-fledged voice assistant.
However, the feature has limitations. ChatGPT does not have access to car controls, so changing the cabin temperature or switching music won't work — Siri is still needed for that. Also, due to Apple's policy, voice activation is not supported: to start or resume a dialogue, you will need to manually open the app.
OpenAI notes that Voice mode in CarPlay will be useful for getting advice, generating ideas, or learning languages during trips. Despite this, the feature doesn't replace Siri and works alongside it, allowing users to listen to music or interact with AI on the go.
