Become a Part of Gran Turismo 7: Sony Lets Fans Join Their Favorite Games with The Playerbase Initiative
Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched an unusual program called The Playerbase, which will become a new level of interaction with the community and allow players to become part of their favorite PlayStation games.
The virtual world awaits you
The essence of the initiative is the professional digitization of the appearance of devoted fans for their subsequent integration into PlayStation's internal studio games.
The first project to open its virtual doors to real people will be the racing simulator Gran Turismo 7. The selected participant will go to a high-tech studio in Los Angeles, where their face will be scanned in detail, after which the gamer will appear in GT7 as a full-fledged in-game pilot character, and together with designers will create a unique logo and exclusive livery for the car, which will be available to all users in the Showcase menu.
The selection of participants will take place in several stages: Sony will analyze the gaming history of applicants (especially success in the Gran Turismo series), their activity in the community, and brand loyalty, after which the finalists will undergo a series of video interviews. The program has already been launched in key regions, including Europe, the USA, and Asia.
Why is this necessary
This step looks like a strategic development of the PlayStation ecosystem against the backdrop of the gradual winding down of the PlayStation Stars program, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Instead of accumulating virtual points and figurines, Sony offers fans a chance for "digital immortality" within its main hits. In the future, the company plans to expand The Playerbase's scope to other major franchises.
