Sony seems to be aiming to establish itself in the luxury audio device segment. According to a reputable insider billbil-kun, the Japanese giant is preparing to release a new flagship model under the mysterious name The ColleXion.
What is known about the new product?
The 1000X The ColleXion trademark was first spotted in patent applications in Japan and Canada as early as 2025, but details have only now emerged.
According to the leak, the headphones will be positioned as an exclusive solution for collectors and audiophiles. Unlike the standard WH-1000X line, which is known for its plastic body and lightness, the ColleXion series may receive more expensive finishing materials and a unique design. At launch, the model will be presented in a single color — classic black.
Price and competition
The most notable aspect is the device's price. According to Dealabs, the price of Sony The ColleXion in Europe will be €629. For comparison, the Sony WH-1000XM6 (current flagship) costs around €449, and Apple AirPods Max 2 — around €579.
Such a price places the newcomer alongside models from brands like Bose (QuietComfort Ultra) and even entry-level models from premium brands like Focal or Bang & Olufsen.
When to expect?
The official announcement and start of sales of Sony The ColleXion are expected on May 19, 2026. On the same day, Sony may present a new color variant for their standard WH-1000XM6 flagships — a beige shade called Sandstone.
It is not yet known whether The ColleXion will receive updated hardware or if it will be a luxury reissue of the XM6, but judging by the announced price, it is clear that Sony is ready to challenge Apple in the race for the favor (and wallets) of the most demanding users.
