There are regular discussions online on the topic of "Which game is the best in industry history." Of course, everyone has their own opinion, and there are a huge number of various top lists, ratings, and methods of determining the best titles. However, the popular portal GameRant took the simplest route and conducted a survey in which more than 270,000 players have participated so far.

The outcome was not surprising

Gamers awarded the first place to the undoubtedly great game Red Dead Redemption 2. Every work by Rockstar Games is worthy of all praise, but the 2018 action game demonstrated unprecedented plot depth, incredible attention to detail, and integrity of game mechanics, each of which benefits the narrative and immersion.

The second place went to the hardcore and dark Elden Ring by FromSoftware, which became the first truly mass game of the souls-like genre.

In third place is the Polish hit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which changed the perception of open-world RPGs. Incidentally, the next game from CD Projekt Red — Cyberpunk 2077 — took eighth place.

The legendary Skyrim claimed the fourth spot, while the sixth and ninth spots were taken by two parts of The Legend of Zelda — the iconic Ocarina of Time (1997) and Breath of the Wild (2017).

There was also room for two former PlayStation exclusives — God of War (2018) and Ghost of Tsushima.

The survey on GameRant is ongoing, so the lower positions may change over time, but RDR 2 will surely remain the best game according to readers, and it's hard to disagree with that.
