Old S Pen styli cannot be used with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 - they can damage the coating of the display

A few days ago, Samsung introduced the new Galaxy Z Fold 3, which became the first foldable smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer with stylus support. True, the stylus is not supplied with gadget - it must be purchased separately. But the important thing is that in fact Z Fold 3 does not support all styluses.

If you want to supplement your smartphone with an electronic pen, keep in mind that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is only compatible with the new S Pen Pro or S Pen Fold Edition models. If you try to work with the older S Pen, the system will notify that it  is not suitable, and refuse to work with the stylus.

Moreover - old S Pen is dangerous for the smartphone's flexible display coverage. Even though Samsung has started using a new protective material that is 80% stronger, a regular stylus can still scratch it, and excessive pressure will cause serious damage.

At  the same time, the new versions of S Pen have a softer tip, which is safe for the coating. By the same to  , it is retractable, so if you try to press harder - the tip will just hide in the housing.

By the way, the S Pen Fold Edition is $50 and the S Pen Pro is $100 . You can also buy a stylus as part of a kit that includes a case and charger - it's not in the smartphone's box either.
