New S Pen is not compatible with regular Samsung smartphones - only with Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 3 - its first foldable smartphone with stylus support. And along with it  - and new versions of the stylus S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro. And although almost a week has passed since presentation, all new details about gadget and stylus operation are revealed.

It has already been revealed that Old S Pen styli cannot be used with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 - they can damage the coating of the display stylus (when switched to appropriate mode). If you try to use an older version of the e-pen - the smartphone will warn of incompatibility and refuse to work with it.

But what happens if the new stylus is used with regular devices? And nothing. As it turns out, the S Pen Fold Edition is only compatible with Galaxy Z Fold 3 - for example, with the flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra it does not work. More precisely, the phone will detect it, but the stylus will not work properly - for some reason only as an eraser

So if you are going to buy a stylus for multiple gadgets - better choose the S Pen Pro. It's compatible with regular and foldable models, and also has Bluetooth, unlike S Pen Fold Edition. True, it is larger, so it will not fit in a special case.
