Qualcomm unveiled Flight RB5 5G, the world's first 5G and AI-enabled drone platform
About a month ago, Qualcomm unveiled a reference Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, and today announced another development - the Flight RB5 5G drone platform.
What is it?
According to the manufacturer, this is the world's first drone platform with 5G support. Simply put, it's a reference drone, a framework that third-party developers and manufacturers can use.
Flight RB5 5G is powered by a QRB5165 processor with eight Kryo 585 processing cores. The same CPU cores and GPU are used in Snapdragon 865. Also added is an Adreno 650 graphics accelerator and Qualcomm Spectra 480 image processor, which provides support for cameras with resolution up to 200 MP. In addition, the quadcopter can use up to 7 cameras simultaneously, record video at 8K resolution at 30 frames per seconds or 4K at 120 frames per second with HDR support.
In addition to 5G, the drone supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. Its equipment includes 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.0 storage.
Price
Qualcomm is already taking pre-orders for Flight RB5 5G, shipments will start in third quarter. For version without 5G they are asking $4000, with 5G modem - $4500.
