Tesla shares plummet after auto-pilot accident investigation launched - Ilon Musk's fortune down $6.9bn
Tesla shares fell by more than 4.3%. The reason was an investigation launched by the US government into accidents involving the company's vehicles.
The investigation covers 765,000 Tesla vehicles with the Tesla Autopilot unmanned driving system, i.e. almost all cars sold since the beginning of 2014. One person was killed and 17 others were injured in the crashes, which were recorded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
At the same time, five accidents occurred on the same highway. It is likely that the vehicle's systems are unable to recognize the fork between a gentle turn and a straight line.
Tesla shares fell in price by 4.32% after information about the investigation emerged. Ilon Musk's fortune dropped by about $6.9 billion.
