Apple has a patent for a MacBook with two displays, virtual keyboard and wireless charging for iPhone
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a patent for a MacBook with two displays, a virtual keyboard replacing the traditional keyboard, and the ability to wirelessly charge the iPhone.
According to the source, this patent was filed three years ago, and only now Apple has won it.
Thanks to this patent, the company may take a radical route and get rid of the physical keyboard. What's interesting about this filing is that while rumors suggest that Apple will remove the MacBook Pro's only touch interface, the Touch Bar, this patent introduces the MacBook without a physical keyboard at all.
Source also claims that this virtual keyboard can be moved by swapping it with the trackpad. With Apple's virtual keyboard it will be possible to use gestures from iOS and iPadOS such as pinch, zoom, slide to select and others.
The patent states that this MacBook features biometric sensors that we can interpret as Face ID, a fingerprint sensor (aka Touch ID), and a wireless charger that sits in the lower left corner of the laptop.
It is not yet known whether Apple will be able to implement all these features in the future MacBook. For now, users are expecting an updated MacBook Pro without Touch Bar, with more ports and a miniLED display. Despite the futuristic nature of the patent, it's hard to imagine really comfortable typing on a fully virtual keyboard.
