Senators call on Biden to blacklist Honor

Republican senators are calling on Joe Biden to add Chinese company Honor to the blacklist. It pulled out of U.S. sanctions that were imposed on the once parent company last year after parting ways with Huawei.

Senators led by Marco Rubio sent a letter to the U.S. president's administration calling the Celestial manufacturer an "arm of the Chinese government." They are unhappy that Honor can continue to use technology that Huawei has been denied access to.

According to Rubio, after selling Honor in November 2020, "Beijing has effectively escaped U.S. export controls." The senator also stressed that by its inaction, the U.S. Department of Commerce is letting its adversaries know that they can go unpunished for their violations.

Chinese Embassy and Honor have not commented on this information yet. Representatives of Huawei also did not say anything about the case, and only reminded that the company no longer owns Honor stock.
