Apple smart speakers with HomePod 15.1 update get support for Lossless and Spatial audio with Dolby Atmos

Along with iOS 15.1 and macOS Monterey Apple has also released a new version of the system for its smart speakers HomePod.

The firmware has been released with build number 15.1. Two innovations have been added to the software. The first is support for Lossless Audio for Apple Music. This means that HomePod and HomePod mini will now be able to play music without latency with the ALAC codec instead of AAC. You can enable this feature in the settings of the devices. Recall, Lossless is only available in individual and family Apple Music subscriptions.

The second innovation of the system is the support for Spatial audio with Dolby Atmos. But it is only available for the HomePod speaker. You can activate the function even if you have a single device, but it's better to use surround sound in stereo pair.
