Oculus has confirmed the Cambria VR headset project
Popular virtual reality company Oculus has revealed details about its future premium headset, now known as Project Cambria. Although Project Cambria is a virtual reality headset, it offers augmented reality support.
Project Cambria is currently in the prototyping phase, but Oculus parent company Facebook has said it is focusing on face and eye tracking. Like any other popular virtual reality headset on the market, Project Cambria will wrap around its user's face to provide a virtual experience. Unlike previous suit Oculus , Project Cambria introduces mill lenses that are likely to improve the design of the headset.
Project Cambria also includes cameras that will shoot full-color, high-resolution video for users to see through the headset, enabling the device to achieve augmented reality. This video allows virtual reality users to experience what it feels like to look through Project Cambria at the world around them, opening up the potential for various augmented reality possibilities . Even more gaming companies are investing in virtual reality than augmented reality, but Facebook may be able to bridge the gap between the two with Project Cambria.
Since Project Cambria is just a codename, Oculus may partially appear in the title, like Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest. While previous Oculus VR headsets have focused primarily on virtual reality, the inclusion of augmented reality in Project Cambria could lead to increased sales of the device. Combining VR and AR together with the new headset Oculus is an important focus of Project Cambria, and it could make Facebook's dream of a metaworld more attainable.
