Smartphones are going up in price - MediaTek raises chip prices

The Taiwanese company MediaTek, following TSMC, announced an increase in the cost of chips. First of all it concerns chips for mobile devices.

What is known

Scarcity does not let up, due to which large chip manufacturers are forced to raise prices. MediaTek processors with built-in 4G modems will go up in price by 15% at once. Despite the fact that the smartphone market is filled with 5G-models, the demand for chips that support 4G is still high. We are talking primarily about the 12-nanometer SoC series Helio.

Single-chip systems that support 5G networks will also increase in price, but not so much - by 5%. In this case we are talking about mobile processors of Dimensity line, which are based on 6-nanometer and 7-nanometer technology.

For ordinary users, the chip price increase will mean an increase in the cost of smartphones. It will be felt in 2022.
